Guide on how to communicate between Vault and a body camera
Please Note: Two-way communication is only available on Horizon cameras on the latest firmware. If you are interested in enabling this feature for your cameras, please register your interest here
Our two-way communication feature allows body camera users and Vault users to seamlessly communicate with each other in real-time without the need for separate equipment such as a walkie-talkie or an earpiece.
To start a two-way connection:
- Turn on your body camera by pressing down the power button for 3 seconds
- Ensure your camera has a strong internet connection (Wi-Fi or 4G). Symbols on screen will show as
or
when they are successfully connected
- Start livestreaming by pressing down the front record button for 3 seconds. A
symbol will appear on screen
- Access the livestream in Vault by navigating to the Livestream section from the sidebar menu of the Vault app. It may take 20-30 seconds for the livestream to appear
- If the camera is two-way enabled and you have the correct Vault permissions, you will be able to see a communication bar below the stream as shown
- If you are connecting for the first time, you will be prompted to give Vault access to your device's microphone
- Once microphone access is granted, click the green Connect to Audio Stream button to establish a connection with the body camera (this may take 20-30 seconds)
- You will now be able to press and hold down the microphone button to speak. Your audio will be heard through the body camera's speakers. Release the button when you are done speaking
- To end the two-way communication, click the Disconnect from Stream button
Troubleshooting Guide
If you are having issues with your two-way connection, please check the following:

Ensure both devices have a strong internet connection. Audio and video quality depend on the strength and stability of your connection
- Ensure you press and hold the microphone button in Vault when speaking

Check that Vault has been granted microphone access

Ensure the volume of the livestream is not muted
- Check with your supervisor that you have permissions enabled to access livestream and two-way

Check that another user is not already two-way connected to the same stream. A status will appear on the right if another user is already connected.

It may take 20-30 seconds for a livestream and two-way connection to be established
- Your network may have additional security settings that need to be updated to allow for a two-way connection. For example, additional ports may need to be opened
